An In-Depth Explanation About Automotive Fuels

When we speak about fuel the first thing coming to everyone’s mind is petrol and diesel. From last many decades these two automotive fuels have been the common and significant fuels which dominate automotive industry.

Since 1990 there has been a rapid progress in fuel technology. Due to the increasing demands, these major fuels have become expensive these days. Apart from that, these fuels are the main cause for environmental pollution. Atmospheric layers that protect the planet are depleted by pollution caused by these fuels.

Alternative fuels:

To overcome this situation lot of alternatives fuels have come into existence. These alternative automotive fuels are better in performance and are easy to maintain. Not only the alternative fuels are cost effective, they do not cause environmental harm as well.

Some of the most significant alternative automotive fuels are Compressed Natural Gas (CNG), Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG). Apart from that, hybrid cars and electronic cars are few other types for vehicles which use alternative fuels which are cost effective and environmentally friendly at the same time.

Producers are still researching for new fuels in order to reduce emissions and boost the performance. In the below paragraphs we will look further into the alternative fuels and their advantages.

Compressed Natural Gas (CNG):

This is the first alternative fuel produced by car manufactures. It is prepared by compression of natural gas at atmospheric pressure. Usually it is stored in high-pressure tanks to serve automobiles. When it released from automobile, it easily gets diluted into inflammable state because it is lighter than air. The resulting reduction causes zero air pollution.

CNG is non-corrosive and odorless gas. This light weight fuel does not contain any air. When compared with petrol and diesel, it saves 40% over cost and 80% over pollution.

Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG):

Liquefied Petroleum Gas is a domestic fuel which stays in the vapor state under normal pressure and temperature. This fuel is cheaper when compared with petrol and diesel. It is a non-toxic gas which emits less pollution to air. This gas fuel is a commonly used in countries like US. In some countries, cars have both petrol engine and LPG tanks so that drivers can switch it according to their need.

Electricity:

Recently car manufactures introduced electricity as one of the alternative fuels. Electric cars are recharged by plugging the car wire into normal power point at home. It is obvious that electricity won’t cause pollution. This alternative fuel gradually paves its way into the global fuel market.

Hybrid:

Hybrid is a deviation of electricity. It also saves fuel and environment. The only drawback of this car is it should have both petrol engine and electric motor. As people use petrol mode in highways and electric mode in local areas. When this car is running in petrol mode it produces emission whereas if it runs in electric mode it produces zero percent emission.

Alternative automotive fuels prevents being dependent on imported oil. These alternative fuels gradually overpower petrol and diesel. Arrival of latest alternative fuels not only save our money but it also helps us to keep our environment clean.
